How it started

A passion that became a profession

CakeToronto began in 2018 in a small home kitchen, where Bahar Guliyeva baked birthday cakes for friends and family. What started as a hobby quickly grew into a passion, and every order taught her something new about flavour, design and the joy a cake can bring to a celebration.

To turn that passion into a profession, Bahar went back to school. In December 2023 she graduated from Humber College’s Baking and Pastry Arts Management program, and in April 2024 she completed the Culinary Skills program. With that training behind her, she was ready to take CakeToronto from her home kitchen to a real shop.

In October 2024, Bahar opened the doors of CakeToronto near York University in North York. Today she runs it as a woman-owned small business with the same care she put into those first cakes: every custom design is planned one-on-one, and everything is made fresh in our own kitchen.
